There has been a major SAR going on all day off the SC coast. Local VHF and the HF Cothen net have been busy. Search is for a 25 foot vessel with three teens that is missing. The 16/17 year olds were said to have been going fishing about 60 miles out, but have not been heard from since [Would you let your 16 year old take a boat 60 miles out?]. SC DNR and local police aircraft and boats as well as CG 6588, CG 1500, CG 1717, and CG 1706 have been searching.

COAST GUARD SEARCHES FOR THREE MISSING CHARLESTON TEENAGERS  

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Coast Guard search and rescue teams are currently searching for three missing  teenagers that were reported overdue from a fishing trip late yesterday evening.

Garret High, 17, Ryan Billings 17, and Lauren Kerigg, 16, departed to go fishing at approximately 3:30 a.m. yesterday on the 25-foot Bayliner Reel High, homeported in Charleston. The three teenagers were expected to return at approximately 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon after fishing 50 miles offshore in the Edisto Banks area for the day.

Upon notification at approximately 8:15 p.m. yesterday, the Coast Guard launched search and rescue teams to search for the missing teenagers. The Coast Guard Cutter Yellowfin, an 87-foot patrol boat homeported in Charleston, a small boat from Coast Guard Station Charleston, a Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston, a Hercules fixed-wing aircraft from Coast Air Station Clearwater, Fla., and Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., have covered a combined search area of 16,000 square miles in the Edisto Banks area.

Coast Guard, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Charleston Police Department search and rescue teams have been searching through the night to find the teenagers.
