Personally, I'd hold out for the new UNiden BCD 396T that will be available 
in the fall 2005.  It will have the capability of 5500 channels as well as 
digital & close capture technology.  (and I would also guess regular AA 
batteries vs the battery pack)

At that point other models of uniden as well as other mfg's that are milcom 
capable will probably go on sale.

Generally I like to buy the radio with the most capabilities included. 
Granted you might not use all of the capabilities BUT you will have them IF 
you need them.
