[MilCom] 137 to 144 MHz

I'm seeing more and more postings about military aircraft using the
frequencies in the 137 to 144 MHz range.  Never spent much time there in the
past, so I'm wondering if military use is AM as on other aircraft bands, or
FM as some other users of this spectrum?
