[MilCom] I need a new stronger antenna

Hello, a few months ago I bought a Pro-43 Scanner for listening to MilAir.  
I live 4 mi NE of Scott AFB near Belleville, IL.  Right now Im having 
problems receiving transmissions from where im am at.  I can receive air 
transmissions.  Im not sure what my antenna is its about 8.5 inches, all 
black and is rubber so im figuring its a cheap not very receptive one.  Im 
going to buy a new scanner antenna, but i need to know what kind to get.  Im 
going to buy either a "W901 9" AIRCRAFT GAIN RUBBER DUCK w/BNC" or a   
"RH77CA 15" ALL BAND RUBBER w/BNC" which is what my friend suggested. He 
purchased the first type listed from you guys and said it is a great 
antenna, but he said the 15" would be a better one because i live in a dorm 
near the center of it on ground level near lots of trees. the trees are 
medium height.  So im just asking what kind of insight you guys on here 
might be able to give me.  Im tired of going up to the girls floor of the 
dorm and getting made fun of cause they live on third floor and thats where 
i go to listen because i cant get anything on the ground level here.
