<New Orleans - Friday>

The local news here has been reporting on the possibility of base closures in Louisiana. The "Big Three", Barksdale AFB in Shreveport, Ft Polk and JRB NAS New Orleans appear to be safe.

The Navy has two Naval Support Acidities, on on each side of the Mississippi River, and one of those will be closed, and consolidated into the other. NAS New Orleans has become home to not only most of the major air assets of all branches, but home to several non-military federal agencies, and one Marine Reserve infantry battalion.

US Customs' aviation unit used to be at NAS New Orleans, but moved to a brand new facility at the airport in Hammond, LA. There are plans to locate a Dept of Homeland Security regional office here. It would be at either the Naval Support Activity or the naval air station.
