Reason for copyright notices in Logs.

I can't speak for others to the practice of this procedure so I am strictly
speaking for myself. I started adding the copyright notice about a year
ago. It was brought to my attention that some frequency and talkgroup
information which I originally posted happened to find its way in print in
a commercial publication. This in itself didn't bother me, what bothered
me was the fact the publication labeled the source as "anonymous". If
proper credit was given then it wouldn't be so upsetting. If the info
appeared in a free publication it wouldn't be upsetting. But the info was
used in a FOR PROFIT publication. This happened on two separate months,
same publication.

So it was either quit posting all together or add the copyright
notice. Granted, in order for a copyright to be enforced a copyright
notice need NOT appear in the information however if it does it easier to
pursue in court if needed. Like magic, since I added the copyright notice
no more of my freqs or other info was printed without proper credit given.

I have never 'salted' any of my postings with invalid data, I do not
believe in that practice. People work hard, don't have much free time, I
don't believe invalid data should be included as it simply wastes peoples
time. However typos do occur and one of my freqs which ended up in print
as an anonymous source happened to be a typo, the very same typo which I
made in my original post of the data.

I really should modify my copyright notice to specify the data should not
be used in commercial print or for profit in anyway. I do NOT mind if
people use, make copies, and/or exchange the logs for non commercial/non
profit purposes as long as proper credit is given.
