[MilCom] "Talkabouts" & Terrorists

About a month ago one of the major networks did a segment on  army ops in
Afghanistan and apparently some of the Taliban may have been using Motorola
"Talkabouts" (FRS/GMRS radios) that were being picked up by signal
intelligence.

A few years back, I remember reading that one group in that area actually
had modified portable telephone to operate as walkie talkies.....   Very
interesting from a comm intelligence standpoint!!
