And what is the setup for practicing shuttle landings in a Gulfstream? Full thrust reverse, gear and
flaps down and dirty. You get the idea. Drops like a rock. And no chance in the world of a
go-around.
I asked Tom Akers, Flight Specialist on the big Hubble Repair mission, what would the options be if
the designated landing spot suddenly was out of the question and you were committed. He said, as
best as I can recall, that they could use any 13,000 foot runway that was no more than 100 miles
either side of glide path and no more than 50 miles short or long.
