So many thanks go to those who helped move a donated 100 ft tower on Saturday, May 19. A 100
foot self supporting tower was donated to the Lowell Amateur Radio Club to hopefully be
erected at the new club shack location in Lowell. We still need to do the site plan, get
township approval, and fundraising for the cost of cement, etc.

In order to paint and renovate the tower, it needed to be moved from where it was stored
near Moline to where it can be worked on. This tower is huge and would need a flat bed truck
to move. This is where special kudos go to Ken KC8YTC and his co-worker Gary that arranged
to bring out a flat bed tractor-trailer and a boom truck. With about 200 total hams on the
various area e-mail lists, when the call goes out for looking for someone with skills or
access to specialty equipment, all too often there is no response when you know someone out
there could but won't have any involvement. That's why I want to highlight Ken and Gary and
the High Grade Material Company for donating time and vehicles to get the job done. Others,
besides Ken KC8YTC and Gary who gave a good chunk of their Saturday: Frank N8UVI, Stu
KA8WGF, Doug KC8EGM, Chuck KC8REH and daughter Ashley, Ann KB8ZSX, and myself Jack NY8D. The
tower was donated to LARC by Dave Tubergen, T&W Electronics.

The annual IRA Hamfestival is this Saturday, June 2, at the Hudsonville Fairgrounds.
http://www.w8hvg.org/IRAfest2k.htm Friday evening (1st) will be the annual "Road Kill
Chili" potluck. TI 147.16+(94.8Hz). The June Grand Rapids Amateur Radio Association (GRARA)
meeting will follow at the fairgrounds. As in the past I will be setting up outside tables
along side my motorhome for GRARA and LARC displays and members with items to peddle. Who
ever has the respective club banners, be sure they are at the Hamfestival.
