I received the below message from a person I worked with at FSU. She's the
manager of the newspaper office. Here name is Laura Anger (Tom, you may
know her.) I don't have any lowband gear so if you or any hams that you know
can help.

I'm guessing that you're still involved with HAM radio folk.
My sister-in-law's family (parents, aunt etc) are from the New Orleans area
Metairie to be exact
They probably won't be able to get any kind of accurate damage report of
their area until maybe Labor Day Weekend if they are lucky. No cell phones
work in the area and attempting calls to Shreveport(where they evacuated to,
is a crapshoot at best as well- lines are jammed most of the time)
through your connections can you contact anyone who can verify that the
homes in the below area are (or were) under water up to the rooflines?
Anyone from near that area these coordinates will make sense:
Metairie area
in front of the M A Green shopping center
Between David and Roosevelt Rds on one side
Airline Highway and W Metairie on the other
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
All these folks are safe - thank god, but all they have is whatever they
were able to carry out with them.
the rumor mill is saying that they likely won't be allowed anywhere near the
area personally anytime before Sept 10th or so as well. So they are quite
anxious to know more accurately what the picture really is.
thanks:)
Laura
