Yes, it works the same on the HTX-202 and HTX-404. Another Ham on this list gave
me the command and it did clear the error. 	
	
Next problem is finding a local or nearby Ham who will solder in a new lithium
battery for me, since I am totally blind and prefer not to roast the circuit
boards with my soldering gun!

This from my Htx-202 Manual
ER1: Internal RAM Error

Er1 indicates the transceiver has detected an error in its battery-backed
up option memory. This is most commonly caused by a low lithium
backup battery, but can also be caused by static discharge, or a physical
shock. To clear the error, reset the transceiver by turing it off, then
holding down F + D while you turn it on again. This clears and reinitializes
memory.

If the transceiver frequently displays the error, have the battery replaced
by an authorized Radio Shack service center.

This came out of my HTX-202 manual i'm assuming these radio are that
alike...
