...an SMD solderng iron?

When I worked for an electronics company we had Metcal soldering stations
with all the bells, whistles and options...

I liked these because the handle/tip was no bigger than a #2 pencil and I
could hold it an inch back from the tip and work on those 0402 parts all day
long with a needle like point!!

Well... I have a Weller 30W iron I bought 13 years ago and I can't hold it
less than three or four inches from the tip and the freaking tip is HUGE!!!!
Imagine soldering DIPs with a 9oz copper! I sure can't solder leads at .01
centers!

Where can I get a somewhat thin iron, say no more than 3/8" where your
fingers would be, and above all I need to hold it close to the tip for
stability?!

Metcals are hundreds even used. I should think I could get something
specialized in the $50 - $75 range.

Any input, ideas, sources would be GREATLY appreciated.
