Those are meant to be current-biased rather than voltage-biased, I believe.
For what it's worth, this (http://www.qsl.net/ke5fx/tr503/tragc.gif) is the
circuit I use to drive a 33102A in my Tek 49x tracking generator
(http://www.qsl.net/ke5fx/tr503.html).  -5V through a 33-ohm resistor (=150
mA) was the most current I felt comfortable putting through it.  The
attenuation curve was pretty flat by that point.
