Infection-protection for any of these nasties is really very simple:

JUST SAY NO TO THE USE OF ANY HTML- OR JAVA-ENABLED E-MAILER, such
as Outhouse, Lotus Notes, Netscape's Messenger, etc..

Instead, get smart and ONLY use a plain-text e-mailer such as the
old, ancient Eudora Lite or Pegasus or even, if you must, the later
Eudora reconfigured for plain text. All of them nasties will wind
up cold and dead in your inbox and remain that way forever until
you trash the message.

At the very least, if you insist on using html e-mailers, TURN OFF
YOUR MESSAGE PREVIEW FEATURE, which automatically executes embedded
javascript as soon as the message is displayed, and thus leaves you
wide open to all kinds of nasty effects, such as telling spammers
that you've opened their spam-mail.

And ALWAYS delete any unexpected or unusual attachment without opening
it.
