Comments:
Montgomery County: Nets: Held five regularly scheduled training VHF nets on
146.61MHz on Tuesdays at 1930L. The monthly HF Hospital Net is held the
Wednesday following the third Monday of the month. February 18: Some of our
members crossed the border, undetected, into CALV county and joined their
ARES group for breakfast and socializing at the Dream Weavers Restaurant.
February 20: Charles, AA3WS, entertained us at the February ARES meeting
with a demonstration of a Time Domain Reflectometer and its usage. The TDR
has been most useful in trouble shooting opens and shorts found in the many
long cable runs found in our hospital systems. Accuracy can be within +/-
three feet of the cable problem. Plans are in the works to meet with all
the hospitals, health departments and county EOC personnel in Maryland's
Region V Hospital Network to see what it would take to 'wire' them up for
an evening VHF net. Stay tuned.
Garrett County: The Garrett County ARES (GCARES) will resume monthly
meetings at the Garrett County Southern Rescue Squad located on route 135
east of Oakland Maryland. The next meeting will be Monday March 12th at
7:00 PM. The GCARES net is held weekly on Sunday evenings at 8:00 PM on the
146.805 repeater, dup PL 123 and is linked to the WAN and Target Link
Repeater Systems. All traffic is FM voice.
Calvert County: Spent 56-manhours this month planning New ARES/RACES Plan
written by Wayne Rogers/N1WR. Check-ins to CARA/ARES net was 71 for
February. We will be starting a separate net just for ARES training very
shortly. Dennis/N3QHC checked in HFHN. Wanda/KA3AHI is assisting getting
CCHD & CMH on line with other hospitals in Region V. N3QHC & Jim/K3UGA
attended PRGE ARES Meeting.
Washington DC: Preparing to support the upcoming National Marathon,
Saturday, March 17. Continuing to conduct the NCAC Net on Sunday evenings
at 9pm to provide a venue for DC and local coordination on the Tysons
Corner 146.91 (-) repeater.
