Jeff,

Adding the Kantronics KPC 3 TNC to the Health Dept. go kits would
certainly make them more compatible with the other resources of our county's
ARES/RACES operations. Anne Arundel County ARES/RACES utilize packet radio as the
principle method for transferring digital data . We have 2 to 3 RMS Packet
internet gateway stations on the air 24/7 plus 2 additional digipeaters
for county-wide packet coverage. Thus, having a Kantronics TNC in the Health
Dept. kits would make them much more useful for our operations.

Also, having HTs in the kits would be very useful, particularly when used
with the 8900 in cross band mode. Actually, with the addition of these 2
items, the Health Dept kits would be almost identical to the go kits that our
EOC purchased for our RACES use.

Ray,
Our contact person at Frederick County Health Dept. is the Director of
Public Health Preparedness. The MD State Health Dept. was probably the
agency that issued the kits about 3-4 years ago. The kits are in large
(23"x18"x14") black plastic "Specialty Cases" along with a Buddy Pole
antenna bag.
