[MDC-EC] Winter Weather event this weekend

Hi Folks;

The National Weather Service is predicting some heavy snow for our  
region over the weekend. Fortunately we have time to prepare for this  
event, so there's no need to panic. Please take a few minutes to  
review your ARES Pre-activation Checklists. For those of you who have  
not prepared a pre-activation checklist, here are some ideas:

Basics:
   Water available
   Non-perishable food items
   Flashlights & batteries
   Matches and candles
   Radio batteries charged
   Food / Water for your pets
   Warm clothing

Extras:
   Full gas tank in you car
   Cash on hand
   Go-kit ready
   Cell phone batteries charged
   Phone numbers for family & neighbors

Special Items:
   Medications

If you don't already have a pre-activation checklist put together,  
please make some time to put one together in the near future so that  
you and your family will be better prepared, especially if there's  
little advance warning.

During periods of heavy snow, the HF bands will be difficult to use  
due to static build-up on your antennas. VHF and UHF frequencies will  
be better options.
