Hi Pete
I was wondering why things have been so quiet. I have been busy and away,
but things are settling down now. I hope Rich stays with us. I would hate
to lose him. I am ready for another session. I have the boards built, but
haven't had a chance to play with code. Now that a little time is surfacing
I could use some of Rich's inspiration. Maybe as busy as N3SB is, he can
find time to setup another session.

Hi John-
Good to hear from you.
Rich, N3III, our chief and primary motivator, has bought a home in northern
Baltimore county and just moved there last week. He says he has no
broadband internet available and no cell phone coverage, but has a good
route planned on the map to get back to Carroll County. Hopefully, he will
be in touch with McHUG soon.
I also wrote a C program, but for the ATmega128, to control the frequency of
the Si570 digital synthesizer chip. The frequency is displayed on an
alpha-numeric 16-character LCD display and push-buttons allow you to
increment or decrement any digit of the displayed frequency. Right now, it
is set up for a development board, but I plan to port the code over to the
ATmega168 BBB board we assembled at the club. I ordered components to build
a box with the controller, display, and synthesizer inside but my order was
just shipped after over two months of waiting. The order was from
www.futurlec.com in Australia that sells mostly with Asian made parts and
board assemblies. Prices are good but you have to be patient. (Steve,
N3SB, has ordered from them several times.)
I also plan to build the SoftRock Lite/Xtall with the Si570 being controlled
by an ATmega controller. Should be interesting.
I need Rich back for inspiration. Hopefully, he'll be at the club meeting
on the 14th.
-Pete, W3GVX
