Dennis, I just received the following from Phil’s daughter:

Hi Vernita, this is Shawn Gore. It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that my dad passed away peacefully last night, surrounded by a room full of family. We will be making funeral arrangements in the next couple of days, but we plan to have a small service in Seiling, probably sometime mid to late week, then a graveside service just north of Blue Rapids, Kansas, which will likely be the next day.

Thank you Vernita, that was sad news to have, Phil and I had pretty close get-togethers, and I furnished him antenna’s, and if he was in the garage building something out of wood,  I would stay and see what was new.  His garage was more wood making than ham radio.  Will miss him.

Dennis,
My former across-the-street neighbor, Phil Hicks, moved to Seiling, Oklahoma a year ago as you know.
His family is mostly in Seiling. His daughter asked me to let the radio club know about his condition.
Shortly after moving in, he started having serious eating problems. Seiling does not have the sort of medical care which is available in Marysville with CMH bringing in specialists regularly.  Consequently it was some time before a group of doctors in Oklahoma City diagnosed the problem as advanced stomach cancer.
Phil’s daughter Shawn says the specialists say this cancer is a type that is rarely caught in time to be treatable.  Phil has been in the small hospital in Seiling for some time now.  In the last week or so he has become unresponsive. However he had told Shawn his wishes for burial which he had arranged for in Prospect Hill cemetery north of Blue Rapids where his parents are buried.
His life expectancy has been reduced to weeks, or maybe days. The plan is for a small chapel service in Seiling and then a graveside service here at Prospect Hill.
Please let the radio club members know of his situation.  I will email you, Dennis, when I know more.
