Kansas Section News Summary April-May 2016

WA0GCN- Jack Rowlett, Paola is now a Silent Key
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Field Day is here ! The most popular operating event in Amateur Radio
is this weekend. If you have never participated in Field Day with a
club or group I encourage you to spend some time with them. There is
nothing quite like the experiences you can have setting up and
operating a station in the field with a bunch of other hams. Field Day
encompasses many disciplines of both Amateur Radio and disaster
operations. If you have not been on HF you may experience HF overload.
Many clubs have a GOTA station for newcomers. An experienced operator
is assigned to assist newcomers to help you get your radio legs. Used
to call this the Novice station.

This year we once again have a governor’s proclamation from the hard
work of Valorie -KC0YTY and a city of Wichita proclamation from WARC.
Many clubs sent out news releases and did promotion of the event.

KD0ARW-Eric will be running the Saturday evening Sideband Net from
Marshall Co ARC FD site using W0GCJ at 6:30 PM on 3920 KHz.
Band conditions haven’t been the best lately. 80 and 40 have been up
and down with 80 experiencing some QSB. For Field Day keep an eye on
15 and 10. They sometimes are a surprise. Have fun and be safe.
-------------------------------
Steve-K0UO reports the Medicine Lodge repeater site for the .88
repeater building burned to the ground in the large range fire late
this spring. They lost all the equipment and feedlines.

WA0VRS-Steve in Topeka reports a new repeater at 927.525 with 88.5
ctcss and 80 watts analog narrow band. Call sign is N0YUR. It is low
elevation but covers Topeka.

Independence ARC net has moved to Mondays at 7PM, still on 145.490 with
91.5 tone.
