Enclosed is a description of the CERT Radio program. The Hamilton Wireless
Association is conducting an Amateur Radio License Class Saturday, November
9. Costs of the program and driving instructions to Trinity Community
Church are included below.

The first step in joining CERT Radio is to obtain an Amateur Radio License.
Classes and examinations are a one-day affair, offered four times throughout
the year. The license class offered by the Hamilton Wireless Association is
part of the HWA-sponsored CERT Radio program and is open to CERT graduates
and neighbors who commit to participating in local CERT training, and
members of the Marin Medical Reserve Corps. While ours is an independent
program comprised of neighbors in neighborhoods, we support communications
with the Marin Medical Reserve Corps. The Amateur Radio license is issued
to successful candidates by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

In addition to filling out a simple form, passing a test of basic radio
technology is all that is needed to obtain the Amateur Radio license. The
license class study session begins at 9:00 AM. At the study session, you
will be given a booklet with questions and correct answers which we ask you
to read up to the time of the test. The examination is held at 1:00 PM. and
is open to all individuals who wish to take a test for an Amateur Radio
license. The Amateur Technician test is a multiple-choice examination of 25
questions. Experience indicates virtually everyone who reads the materials
passes the examination. Additional information regarding the CERT Radio
program will be distributed at the end of the examination.

As part of the CERT Radio program, we ask you to attend a four-session
Communications Training Class and participate in follow-on exercises using
your radio from your home. With your Amateur Radio license, we invite you
to purchase a two-way radio. Cost of the radio ranges between $125 and
$180. Our recommended radio is in the $180 range.

The Communications Classes are conducted on an ongoing basis to assist you
with using your radio. Four class sessions are held in sequence each
Thursday evening at Trinity Church from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A class manual
is available for a cost of $5.00.

Weekly ½-hour exercises are conducted each Monday evening from 7:00 PM to
7:30 PM. We exercise a variety of communication drills and practices.

The cost of the License Class is $25. You may pre-register, or pay at the
door. If you would like to pre-register, send your name, address and phone

number along with $25 to
