The first step in joining CERT Radio is to obtain an Amateur Radio License.
In addition to filling out a simple form, passing a test of basic radio
technology is all that is needed. CERT Radio and the Hamilton Wireless
Association are conducting an Amateur Radio License Class Saturday, August
10. The study session begins at 9:00am, with a test to obtain your license
scheduled at 1:00pm.
The License Class offered by the Hamilton Wireless Association is part of
the HWA-sponsored CERT Radio program. We offer the License Class in
conjunction with a four-session follow-on Communications Class as an
independent extension to CERT (Community Emergency Resource Team) training,
with the interest of forming an emergency radio network as part of a
neighborhood CERT response in the event of a disaster. We also support
communications for members of MMRC (Marin Medical Reserve Corps).
Communications Classes are conducted on an ongoing basis to assist you with
using your radio. There are four class sessions which are held in sequence
Thursday evenings at Hamilton from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. If you know any MMRC
or CERT member(so) who would like to join us in our Radio group, please let
them know about the program!
At the License Class this Saturday, you will be given a booklet with
questions and correct answers which we ask you to read up to the time of the
test. Experience indicates virtually everyone who reads the materials
passes the test.
Once you obtain your Amateur Radio license, we ask you to purchase a two-way
radio. Cost of the radio ranges between $125 and $180. Our recommended radio
is in the $180 range.
The cost of the License Class is $25. You may pre-register, or pay at the
door. If you would like to pre-register, send our name, address and phone
number along with $25 to

program. The list also provides a way to communicate among our CERT Radio
members.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email or call.

Trinity Church is located at 1675 Grand Avenue in the Dominican area of San
Rafael. Our K6BW website has not yet been updated, but here are summary
instructions to the church:
If you are traveling from the south on Highway 101, take the Central San
Rafael Exit. You will be on Irwin St. Continue north on Irwin, bearing
right and avoiding the 101 North entry. Continue one block and turn right
on Belle Avenue. Continue on Belle past an elementary school to Grand Ave.
Turn left on Grand and continue approximately two blocks to 1675 Grand.
If you are traveling from the north, take the Lincoln Avenue exit. From the
exit, turn left at the stoplight and continue south on Lincoln to the next
stoplight. Turn left onto Linden Lane and continue through the
undercrossing of Highway 101. At the other side of the undercrossing, turn
right on Grand Ave. The church is on the immediate right-hand side of
Grand.
Feel free to park in the large parking lot in front of the church. The
meeting room is down a small flight of steps on the right-hand side of the
main building.
