If you are able to hear the repeater you should in most cases be able to be
heard, especially with the equipment you describe.   I am not sure what a
x50 antenna is.  What coax you are using and what length?  Are you using
110.9 PL?  We should be able to help you gain access to K6BW.

If you would attend our classes, held each Thursday at Hamilton, we will be
able to readily address your questions.  I doubt you are aware that your
comments are an example of why we operate the way we do.  In short there are
a number of  very good reasons for using a standard, formal protocol and
even better reasons for practicing.   What is practiced is what will be used
in an emergency.
