Hi Gayle,
We have missed you and George at our Thursday evening training sessions, and
during what is turning out to be a regular weekly on-air practice Monday
evenings at 7:00pm. Steve, KI6JAT opened the net this (Monday) evening on
the K6BW repeater, and did a great job with a new script he has prepared for
the net.
Power was apparently lost at dusk Sunday in San Rafael, parts of San Anselmo
and Fairfax. The K6BW repeater was operating, and although calls were made
from here a couple of times, no other stations were heard.
Overall, we have been very pleased with radio coverage. Our simplex tests
have shown we can communicate over a large part if not all of San Rafael and
parts of Novato. We have even better coverage with the repeater, especially
from handheld transceivers.
A DART radio volunteer (Jan, KI6LNJ) has just joined us from Sun Valley and
we hear her signal very well. Our objective is to work with the radios to
find soft spots, then work together to develop techniques to overcome them.
It may take a little patience and creativity, but the goal is to maintain
communications when nothing else is working.
I hope you and George will be able to attend our Thursday night classes
where we can discuss what steps to take to resolve your dead zone. There is
every confidence you will be able to participate in DART radio, after all
that is the essence of the program.
Bill
