I got a late start for MAD. I wanted to get up at 5 am and be set up
by 7 am. I slept through the alarm and got up at 6:30. Whoops. I don't
think I got to sleep till 2 am though. It was just too hot overnight.
Anyway, got to the hill in EN50rl and got 10 GHz going by 8 am and
tried to work AF4JF in EM48sq, St. Louis. Nothing heard either way. I
also could not hear the St. Louis beacon on 10368.900. So we tried
1296. Great signals both ways on 1296. Then worked WB9PNU, also in St.
Louis, on 1296 with great signals.
I worked W9ZIH next. We had great signals on 1296, 3456 and 10 GHz. It
seemed there was a little enhancement. This was around 9 am. I was
also copying the K9MOT beacons on 903 and 1296 about S5 to S8. I then
worked Danny NG9R in EN40na on 902 and 1296, with decent signals both
ways. I was his first QSO on 902 MHz! I tried to work Marcel N9NJY on
902 and 1296 around 10 am but by then the band conditions were
deteriorating and I heard him briefly on 902, then he disappeared. No
QSO on either band with him.
I then worked Craig K9CT who is just west of Peoria on 902 and 1296.
Very good signals on that path but he was only about 70 miles away.
It was really starting to get hot by then so I tore down, packed up
and drove home. Sorry I missed you Dave. If I'd gotten up when I
wanted to, we probably could've worked.
