Andy, what mode (or modes) were you using on 630 m last night?
Regarding your Win XP question, another question worth asking would be
"what antivirus can I use?" If you're going to have a receiver connected
to the Internet for remote access, you'll need some sort of protection.
My last XP machine used to have Norton, but it became such massive
bloatware that it wouldn't run on XP any more and I had to uninstall it.
That left me mighty paranoid about being connected to the net. Even not
connecting to unknown sites or opening file attachments wasn't adequate
protection. After Microsoft ended support, someone found a way to exploit
Windows Automatic Update to access files on the machine...a fact I
discovered when they got greedy and started uploading massive amounts of
data from my drive, which caused DNS access to stop working after visiting
one or two sites. Using the available tools to hunt the cause, I found
out Update was hogging the very limited resources on the machine, and its
log showed vast transfers going on. There was nothing sensitive on the
machine and it was easy to cripple Update, but it shows that XP has
serious vulnerabilities now that MS isn't doing security fixes.
