By software bug, I include the possibility that it may be improper decoding of a call sign.  But you are correct, with that many stations seeing it, that would require some flaw in the transmitting signal also.

I was wondering if it was a software artifact - but it would have to affect all of the individual reporting stations at the same time.  Seems unlikely unless it's a really strange bug.  Here is a sampling of reports:

(sorry for any odd cut/paste artifacts above)

All of those reporting stations had the same software glitch at the same time?  Or were the reports just being generated online at wsprnet.org and not by real receivers???

The reported location matches the C6 prefix...

If real - the report at 9352km is not bad for a newbie.  And a few stations in opposite directions make it seem more legit.

I have seen it in the past on occasion and concluded it (C6ABO ) was likely
a software artifact as it sometimes appeared when conditions were
unfavorable for distant reception.
