hi Andy, wise choice to leave well enough alone here.

actually the sound driver API changes were made in Vista; the "content 
provider industry" (RIAA, MPAA, etc) demanded an OS that would prevent 
"ripping", that is copying their content.   this kind of thing only 
hurts honest people.

I think what you want is now called a "virtual audio cable". search for 
that, a number of free ones are available.

(I have a windows 7 computer with 5 soundcards, two PCI, three USB.  
they all seem to work about the same.)
