Very sad indeed. I speculated in The LOWDOWN last year that the pricing 
structure of the radio then kind of looked like a closeout deal, but since 
that time I came to hope it was a sign of a flexible marketing strategy 
where the basic model could continue in existence for a long time yet, 
having long since made back its R&D costs.  Apparently that's not to be the 
case.

Software Dependent Radios are OK when you need their unique features, I 
guess.  But for those of us who have no interest in recording huge blocks of 
spectrum when hunting only slow, narrow signals, nor of acquiring a massive 
enough new computer to handle such, nor any need of operating via a network 
from miles away, there's a lot to be said for a competent receiver that puts 
its essential functions in a single, compact, standalone, 12-volt-powerable 
box.  The R75s met the need quite nicely.
