On a small loop (less than about 1/8 wavelength) maximum radiation will be in the plane of the loop. 
A N-S oriented loop will radiate N-S with nulls E-W.

I find it works best to shoot lines from within the thick woods, over the tree, with the projectile 
landing in the cleared area.

Will take a look for your signal although being in the null doesn't bode well for a successful 
reception.
