Usually decode a few messages from Puerto Montt, Chile on 518 kHz Navtex
at least once every winter season. Last night kept the record in tact
through 2016. Station D in area 15 at 9414 km rose up and did battle
with area 12 station D at 3340 km around 0400Z. It was interesting to
see the signals capture then drop then capture again. Three messages
from Chile made it through - DA54, DA43, and DA42. It was clear which
messages came from Chile as opposed to Prince Rupert, BC - the messages
all have headers stating "Puerto Montt". In the past I've seen messages
in Spanish rather than English, but these latest are in English (the
standard for 518 kHz transmissions; local languages are used on 490 kHz).

Otherwise signals were similar to the previous evening. No Greenland
decodes, but Tofino, BC along with US stations C,Q, and W on the west
coast all decoded.
