Hi All: I needed a break from work on Wed for a few hours and re-capped this 1940s Airline AA5 midget radio
I recently found on ebay for a reasonable price for some personal stress management...

Note the back metal plate on this radio is insulated from the chassis. It is the antenna. It has a fanstock clip to attach an
extra length of wire.

And permeability tuned. The RF and LO tuning slugs move in opposite directions with the tuning dial drive cord.

The schematic calls the back plate an "antenna plate"

Last night I had it on the dining room table around 11PM and it was receiving WCBS in New York just fine on just the "voltage probe" plate antenna.
