Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition, either, then one day they show up at 
your door. :)

Actually, a lot of things can go wrong trying to use established software on 
a newer OS.  Often it's because of new drivers that work differently from 
what the application is expecting.

Even a supposedly routine update to the same OS can "break" an application 
that was previously working fine.  Last winter when I resumed using WSPR 2.0 
under Windows 7, it would no longer even attempt to decode at the end of the 
2-minute window.  No error messages...simply nothing happened.  Well, I 
figured it was time to try the slightly newer WSPR anyway, so I installed 
it--and it didn't work either!  Turned out Microsoft decided to prevent 
applications from writing certain files of their own in the default 
installation folder, as part of one of those periodic security 
upgrades...and didn't warn users about the change.  Surprise!
