Jay,
Before I answer your question I see I must admit a mistake that I made
in my post to Andy. I didn't intend to mislead anybody, I just didn't
proofread my post close enough. I should have written 50Ft
circumference loop not diameter loop. I'll try to do better.

I pulled a loop up between my two towers. (See my antenna farm on my
page at QRZ.com) It was about 180 Ft of 16Ga stranded pvc insulated
wire shaped into a rectangle with the bottom run about 5Ft above ground.
I could not get any rf current to flow with any of the sizes of mica
transmitting caps that I had on hand. (or combinations of caps) I gave
up on it and took it down.

I then pulled up a 50Ft long section of RG-6 and put it into about a 12
Ft square, the bottom run about 5 Ft above ground. I am using the shield
as the loop conductor. Again I couldn't get any current with the mica's.
I hit the internet for a loop calculator and used it's answers for the
cap size as a starting point, using some 600v "orange drop" caps from
the junk box. I then found one that allowed the Power Amp to consume 1
watt of input power. The home made RF Amp meter that was included with
the equipment indicated 1/2 scale on its higher power range setting with
that cap. I decided that I was getting in the ballpark, and it was also
getting dark so I let it run that way last night.

I have been using the Ashlock loop docs as my guide, along with the 50
Ft discussion.
