Not much luck this evening, unfortunately. I did see hints of signal right
at .324 but only faintly. Maybe more accurate to say, there were more
intermittent concentrations of energy there than anywhere else nearby. That
frequency was far enough from Dex's sidebands themselves, but pretty close
to the occasional mixing product around .3235.
Pulled the plug about 9 PM CST and brought everything back to town. The
marathon session had been going on since 3 PM Monday, as an exercise to see
how practical my setup is for extended monitoring. Turns out it's much
better than before with the car right at the base of the tower, since I can
now return to town briefly for food, warmth, and other necessities without
interruption monitoring. But it also turns out that naps in the cab of the
truck, no matter how well the heat remains trapped, are no substitute for a
full night's sleep. :)
Before I disconnected, I did make a quick scan. DCF77 was the strongest
I've seen it here, almost 6 dB above the previous best at very nearly S7.
Weak LORAN sidebands were present. France Inter was delightful at S9+ with
only modest static interruptions tonight, with some uniquely orchestrated
contemporary chanson-like music featuring remarkable chord changes...sort of
like ELO meets Genesis meets Jacques Brel. Or maybe more accurately,
Charles Aznavour, now that I think about it. The music came through more
clearly than the announcements did, so I'm clueless but intrigued. I could
detect other LWBC carriers in CW mode but no other audio. Lots of NDBs I
didn't recognize tonight, too, making me wish I were a little more rested
and could have logged a few.
Will hopefully look forward to your more powerful signal soon, Pat.
