Mark: I tried one of the China 7W LED replacement bulbs I found at the local 
Sam's Club store. It was quiet at LF, but horrendously bad at VHF.

There is a USA maker of  legal incandescent bulbs that gets past the legal 
loophole with a rough-service long-lasting filament design. The company is 
called

I have not tried any of their products yet.  Although my stock of  existing 
incandescent 40 watters is running low, so I will likely give them a try at 
some point.

I first found them on ebay....
