I once had an antenna in the arsenal that physically looked like a very short (20 foot long, 6 foot vertically) beverage, 9:1 xformer at the feedpoint, fixed resistor to ground - the usual stuff.. had a nice omni pattern and actually  gave me an improved S/N on 160 due to general lower noise level compared to the TX vertical... finally new local noises wiped it out so I rolled it up, using the longer bevs, K9AY loops and shielded loops....

regardless of why andy's antenna works, if it helps him hear better, there is value... it was definitely hearing well last night!  Thanks for your efforts Andy!  Please keep it up.
