>>> Say at mid-day-noon-is there any trace of anybody out your way?

Usually MP at 137.7805 unless the noise is absolutely horrendous. The 1750
m mid-day groundwave tests you and Dex conducted along with Mitch back last
winter were fantastic.

There have only been a few daytime operations at 72.4 that I was free to go
look for, but had even better results there. Would enjoy a chance to do
mid-day tests at 74.55 this Sunday if the weather cooperates.

>>> I realize many early evenings you see nothing even with low noise.

Actually, that's only been the case a few times so far. By that I mean both
"low noise" (very few so far, but fortunately the percentage of those days
is slowly increasing) and the "see nothing" part, which is also fairly rare.

One evening your signal suffered from the sunset fade fairly strongly, and a
couple of times /5 did. A few times there has been too much noise even
before sunset, so I don't remain in the field. And some days, of course, I
don't get to go out there at all. But for the most part, when the noise is
not above S7 too much of the time, I can see you.

>>> Appears this capture is skywave and then just fades out?

No, it was actually quite solid copy right up to when I decided I'd best
look for SIW before the batteries got low...and while I was doing that, then
the rain began. The noise increased a few dB after sunset, but so did the
signal level.

The same thing happened again tonight with regard to noise levels. In fact,
the increase was a couple of S-units tonight, but both /4 and /5 were solid
the whole time, from half an hour before sunset to at least that far after.
I'd love to post that picture right now, but this time the computer battery
DID die...and gave me no warning ding or "save your work" messages before
the shutdown. After it charges a little while, I'll bring it out of
hibernation and retrieve tonight's captures.

John
