Gary, John:

Thanks for listening for XNI. The antenna system is identical to what I
used for my lowfer. The difference is I'm running, I would estimate, about
65-75 watts to the antenna. The antenna system is pretty modest - I live
in a "covenant controlled" neighborhood so it can't be too obvious ! It is
about 30' total vertical length, with two top radials of about 6' length,
and one long one of about 30' length. It's about 6' from the back wall of
the house. The ground system is "opportunistic" but amounts to a dozen or
so wires run to some copper ground rods, and a chicken wire screen. With
the 70W, I get about 1.2 A of antenna current....so you can see the ground
system not the best.

I thought that I might be able to use the higher BW modes ( like CW and
QRS3 ) with the additional power, but it looks so far to be making a not too
significant difference. I guess a good test might be to run the beacon in
QRS30 and at the reception site keep increasing the Argo QRS speed ( thereby
increasing the BW ) to see where the signal drops out. Somewhere I saw a
chart which showed the theoretical gain of QRS over regular CW....maybe
QRS10 had a 15 db advantage over straight CW....so I would probably have to
run 1 KW or more for Gary to HEAR me at his QTH!

I'll run tonight at QRS30 starting around 0430...and let it run overnight
again.

73!
