On the matter of propagation to the Southern hemisphere, perhaps its
already underway. In line with Laurence's impressive feats on 137 kHz
reaching New Zealand in March, last night on 518 kHz I decoded two
transmissions from Navtex station $15L in Magallanes (Punta Arenas),
Chile. The path length is 10712 km (6634 mi). I previously decoded a
Navtex station in Chile ($15K, Puerto Montt, 9413 km), but only once.

Maybe $15L would decode more often if US area 4 station E in Savannah,
GA wasn't so long winded. It usually even covers up station F in Boston.
Last decode from E over night was 0843Z. The Chile decodes were 0846 and
0847Z.
