Doc: Thanks for correcting my spelling on th S-51"Seafarer". I should have double-checked "Seafearer" spelling at the time it wrote the comment....

Interesting it is not a front panel logo on the S-51 like a Skybuddy or Skyrider on earlier Hallicrafter's models,

The Bama Boat Anchor archive had the manual and schematic copies. Thanks for the mention of the manual tho....

I tried using an improvised random wire on the S-51 last nite---piece of #18 stranded wire to the front porch raingutter downspout. Heard MF stations and some SW stations with it---and lots of digital noise on LF---only heard one NDB. 1.8 to 4 MHz mostly all PC noise....

Switched to my EWE antenna 150~200' from my house, along with a matching transformer feeding the S-51 receiver balanced input----and the LF/MFSW bands come alive with stations--and the noise levels greatly reduced.

I've come to the realization that if I did not have the extra 50 x 100 ft of yard space behind my garage that LF/VLF reception would likely not happen here.....it's just enough distance to get out from under my local noise envelope that allows the EWE antenna to (begin to) work well.
