Wow.  Wish I could persuade myself to go back out into the field to try for 
Stefan, but in the dark I'm really not sure I could find the dry enough path 
again.  I was prepared to stay out there a while longer if I'd had any 
encouraging signs of an opening to Europe, but at sunset there were no LWBC 
coming in, and DCF77 was still almost indistinguishable from the background 
at that time,so I didn't figure there was much hope for transatlantic 
activity.
