At MF, LF and VLF almost any antenna will gather enough signal ... the biggest s/n improvements come
via noise reduction. This can be difficult to determine when looking for signals -50 dB SNRr since
weak noise sources can't be heard in the headphones. Luckily it can be seen on narrow FFT
spectrograms and SpectrumLab, in particular, is able to accurately measure and plot the noise floor
and guide one to 'under the audible noise floor' s/n improvements.
