Hi Bob.
My assessment of current LF modes:
CW: Old standby. The bare minimum standard on LF.
QRSS: Your best bet for actual signal reports from "casual" listeners. Note
that "casual" listeners on LF are a great deal less "casual" than your
average shortwave or amateur radio listener.
WSPR: Good mode to use for automated signal reporting. "Lots" of listeners,
especially on 600 meters.
WSPRX: I would say on par with QRSS60, but with automated signal reporting.
My favorite digital LF mode. I have had a good deal of success with WSPRX.
WOLF: Never have been able to get it to work. Probably due to lack of
effort/intelligence on my part and my sound card calibration isn't up to
par. Dunno.
OPERA: Popular in Europe, but I was immediately turned off when I visited
the web site. Just seems "fishy" to me. Regardless, I have resolved to
install the OPERA software on a secondary computer and to try to learn to
use it.
