Returned to the field tonight and managed not to destroy any equipment this
time (so far as I can tell until daybreak).

Last night the QRN was individual crackles and crashes, but tonight it was a
roar. (At 2200m it was S9 and I couldn't even see MP.) None the less, I
could hear individual characters on 475.2 kHz...mainly the W and C were
discernable, once in a while the G, and occasionally a 2 or an X. Never was
able to hear the whole ID cycle intact.

WD2XSH/6 was very prominent tonight. Caught part of that call in CW too,
and had very clear traces on the QRSS message this time except for the
occasional deep fade. Unfortunately, even with XCT at the very upper edge
of my filter passband, there was frequently enough signal from /6 to
distract my ear while trying to copy XCT. I'd need either some DSP magic or
a little more frequency separation to pull you out clearly, Pat.

Even so, with the QRSS3 display, I was able to measure both frequencies to
within about +/-0.25 Hz, and logged XCT as 475,200.5 Hz and XSH/6 as
475,321.5 Hz.

(I'd like to have tried a slower speed to let me resolve them closer, but
the calibration wouldn't have been any more precise because my reference...
WWV at 10 MHz... was exhibiting some pretty dreadful Doppler spreading here
this evening.)

John
