Neil,
The switchover is carried out with the help of a nice on-board timer. I
set the changes to occur at local noon so that night the intended
frequency would be active. That means, for example, Monday night/Tuesday
early morning the lowfer sends on 185.185 kHz. It does the same for
Wednesday night/Thursday early morning and Friday night/Saturday early
morning. The other days it will send on 185.2993 kHz. The frequencies
are set by OCXOs so they're quite stable, except for a few minutes after
the switch occurs as the references are warming up then.
Of course this will soon be academic because I plan to stow the beacon
for the summer in early May. I'll work on it and hopefully next winter
it will send SIW in 90 second slash code when it's on 185.185 kHz.
That's a form of DFCW where the dots are upward ramps and the dashes are
downward ramps. That seems to get through noise better than fixed
frequency operation.
