My first vertical was made from the old telescoping steel sections.
Being a high school student I would scavange sections from collapsed
TV antennas after big storms.
I'd haul them home by stuffing one end in a golf bag and holding the
other end in my hand as I rode my bike. It was interesting when
sometimes the sections wouldn't nest correctly and I was towing 25'
behind my bike.
Over time I had collected 8 different sizes that would nest and with
some overlap plus a 10 ft section of conduit on top it gave me an 80
ft high guyed vertical with the top guys as a top hat.
