Good point, and I admire people who "roll their own".

I have "rolled my own" on a few radio projects, and built quite a few
"stuff the circuit board" kits.

"Lots of $$$$" is relative to your financial means. If you get up at 0500,
five days a week like I, and my wife, do, travel to work on a busy freeway,
and keep your employer happy with your performance, $250 isn't a deal
breaker for a hobby pursuit, not by a long shot.

That's *way* less than a set of decent golf clubs.
