JD,
A few qualifiers! Then under the call sign of VK2ZTO, Steve was active
with Hifer stuff in 2001. He had a beacon, "RIC" on 13555.45 kHz that
was received by Lyle Kohler in MN on May 28, 2001. Steve reported
reception of RY (from Raymond, ME) on 13555.36 kHz on August 14, 2001,
though I recall the copy as being a bit sketchy. Things were a bit messy
at that point, because the unattended RY beacon was not in its normal
DFCW mode, and had spent some time spontaneously sending the TAG
callsign. Unfortunately, I never saved Steve's capture locally, and his
old VK2ZTO site is long gone.
All of this history is nicely preserved in the LWCA Message Board
Archives, a useful tool, for which you are to be thanked!
