[Lowfer] Titanic Special Event

All,

I'm going to try something interesting on Saturday evening, April 15
(Eastern time). I have set up a Model-T style spark coil with the
breaker points disabled, and driven from a keyed audio generator through
a MOSFET switch. It gives a nice spark with a 500 cycle source. I have
recorded some hand-keyed .wav files (filtered to an SSB bandwidth) from
an AM receiver. I will put together a looped file of XGR/3 ID's plus an
authentic MGY distress call, and run it on 510 kHz USB next Saturday.
Actually sounds pretty good an an AM receiver, as well.

This will give some idea of what a spark signal would have sounded like,
without tripping over any regulatory issues. If I can work out the
mechanics of running it all with the 600 meter rig transmitting in real
time, I'll be open to the idea of a QSO. Won't have much further time to
play until next Saturday, however. More details then. No Friday night
operation possible, due to non-radio commitments...
